Fuel cell engines for buses

Urban centers all over the world are confronted with heavy environmental pollution as a result of everyday traffic. Tightened emission standards right down to rigorous bans on driving are among the first consequences to cope with this dilemma. Fuel cell vehicles open up completely new prospects for traffic in urban centers.

The use of fuel cell buses enables zero-emission solutions for local public transport. Field tests in cities all over the globe demonstrate the maturity of the buses. 30 'Citaro' city buses with fuel cell power trains have proven their readiness for regular service in 10 European cities. Three more buses are on the roads of Perth, Australia, and Peking, China, each. All vehicles have been equipped with NuCellSys engines. In the meantime, more than one million kilometers have been covered – 100% zero-emission – and with enthusiastic acceptance by passengers and the general public.

The bus programs are running at top speed all over the world. - Recently, the European bus program has been extended by one year. In the USA, in Canada, in Asia and Australia, fuel cell buses are on the road and are sending promising signals regarding the acceptance and chances of success for fuel cell technology in automotive applications.
