Daimler – pioneer and trigger for tomorrow's mobility

»Our way to sustainable mobility« – by this motto Daimler pushes its fuel cell initiatives all over the world. There NuCellSys is an important constant and the interface for concentrating and initiating excellent technology expertise as well as for the realization of commercially viable fuel cell engines.

Since as far back as the early 1990s, researchers and engineers at Daimler-Benz have been working on the implementation of fuel cell technology into automobiles. In 1994, NECAR 1, the first fuel cell vehicle, was presented, followed by more than 20 research vehicles and prototypes.

In 2003, Daimler started the world's largest on-road test of fuel cell engines with passenger cars, transporters and public-transit buses.

60 Mercedes-Benz A Class 'F-Cell' cars are currently tested on-road by customers in Germany, the USA, Japan and Singapore. 30 Mercedes-Benz 'Citaro' public-transit buses equipped with fuel cell engines are in service in ten European cities. Three more buses are on the road in Perth, Australia, and Peking, China, each. In addition, a number of transporters with fuel cell power trains are used in daily service with delivery companies in Germany and the USA.
